The Nairobi Roller Coaster (keep your hands and feet inside at all times)

Little more than 3 weeks in and we have been assigned, re-assigned, re-assigned again and back to assigned between 3 different houses… that’s a lot of “asses” in that statement… which seems very accurate! I’m starting to get stir crazy!

The last couple weeks here have been a little bit of a roller coaster of emotions. Being in temporary housing and not being able to get settled really took a toll when my Grandfather passed away last Tuesday the 17th. I would have loved to be home with my family but so fortunate to have their understanding. He was one of the best men I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing and will always remember his 90 years worth of entertaining and wonderful stories.

Gumbo is still having a bit of a rough time but he enjoys laying out in the sun on the balcony. He is very much looking forward to being on real grass in our backyard when we finally move in supposedly next Sunday the 5th! Happy Birthday Laurie in case I forget! I’ve never been more excited for my oldest sister’s birthday lol!

Despite the hard stuff I have managed to connect with the most wonderful group of women and have established “Real Housewives of Nairobi” weekly lunch dates. I even joined a book club which reminds me I need to pick a book! Anyone have any good recommendations in the “travel genre”? preferably a short read with a movie adaptation???

Also went to the fabric market with some of my new friends and really excited to get my African overalls made!!

I also have two volunteer ventures I have become involved in. One of which is an animal rescue where I will be helping walk and run dogs at least once a week and the other is Mogra Children’s Home which houses nearly 300 orphaned children from newborns to teenagers. I spent this morning help feed all the babies and sharing a little joy. I will be setting up a fundraising page for anyone who wishes to donate money. Just to give you an idea it costs $2000 a month to supply all of the babies with diapers. Also for any parents out there who have children that have outgrown their clothes or toys please feel free to send them my way, message or email me for the address. Other useful items would be baby wipes and bibs as I was definitely a human bib today!!

Finally but not least… I have been on the struggle bus with my fitness routine and have decided I needed something to train for and keep me motivated. So I’m coming home for Richmond in November!!!

Can’t wait to see everyone!!

Love,

Amanda
